Water for Life
e-news: Feb 2007
As part of the Metropolitan Water for Life Plan, the Ethnic Communities Home Water Action Program will engage Sydney's ethnic communities to become part of the shift to more water wise behaviour.
The Home Water Action Program is working with the Ethnic Communities Council Bilingual Educators to develop the new Water Wise Workshop series covering 9 languages: Arabic, Mandarin, Cantonese, Korean, Vietnamese, Spanish, Italian, Greek and Macedonian.
The first workshop has been held, and many more will be planned this year in partnership with active councils across Sydney. The workshops cover handy tips for water wise behaviour around the home and in the garden, and talk about Sydney Water's latest offers and rebates to save water - such as the WaterFix Program and the Water Saving DIY Kit.
The first workshop was held on 13 January 2007 with a group of more than fifty from the Tzu Chi Foundation and the Lak Saviya Foundation.
"I now feel more empowered to deliver the concept of water saving to people around me. As Environmental Protection is one of Tzu Chi's missions, the presentation on water saving has provided us with practical tips and given Tzu Chi a solid foundation with its environmental work."
Wenley Ho, Tzu Chi Foundation
Following the workshop there are now 40 people registering to become Water Ambassadors. The Water Ambassador Program is the latest initiative of the Home Water Action Program, and is a voluntary community based program that provides training and ongoing support to community members so that they can become leaders of positive change and assist their neighbours and friends in taking water wise action.

This Program is a partnership with the Department of Environment and
