Renovators interested in style, value for money and environmental sustainability can now turn to a new, free guide for practical advice and tips.
"The Your Home Renovator's Guide is a useful and practical resource for all Australian renovators, helping them to make informed decisions about sustainable design and product features," said David Trewin, Manager Business Partnerships, Department of Environment and Climate Change NSW.
"To make your home healthier and more comfortable, there are tips on how to keep warmer in winter and cooler in summer – without the need for expensive heating or air conditioning.
"The Guide includes a checklist for each stage of the renovating process and a set of briefing sheets on how you can give clear instructions to architects and tradespeople."
The Renovator's Guide has been developed by the Department of Environment and Climate Change NSW along with the Australian Government's Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts; the Building Commission, Victoria; Sustainability Victoria; Environmental Protection Agency, Queensland; Department of Housing and Works, Western Australia; ACT Planning and Land Authority; and Moreland Energy Foundation, Victoria.
It joins the Your Home Buyer's Guide, launched last year to help people building a new home to think about making their home sustainable.
