Benchmark: The NABERS Conference Series

BENCHMARK: The NABERS Conference Series recently introduced a range of new environmental performance rating tools for retail and hotel buildings, and waste and indoor environment tools for offices. Case studies outlining how NABERS (the National Australian Built Environment Rating System) has been used successfully by some of Australia’s largest property portfolio owners and managers were also presented.

The conferences, held in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth, were a valuable opportunity for delegates new to NABERS and for those who are experienced and keen to find out about new developments in the system.

NABERS is the industry standard for benchmarking and measuring the environmental performance of Australian buildings. This voluntary rating scheme, which incorporates the highly successful Australian Building Greenhouse Rating (ABGR), measures the performance of existing buildings.

A NABERS rating provides building owners, managers or occupants with a simple indication of how well they are managing the environmental impacts of their premises compared with their peers and neighbours. Environmentally responsible businesses can use their NABERS ratings to promote a high standard of performance in protecting and conserving our environment, and provide real evidence of their commitment to the triple bottom line.

NABERS rating tools are currently available for measuring the energy/greenhouse and water performance of commercial and residential buildings.
