Living Sustainably

Issue 5 - Aug 2007

Find out how water and energy efficient you are at home with a NABERS Home Rating.

NABERS Home Rating Tool Entry Webpage

NABERS HOME is a household environmental performance rating tool that compares the energy and water use of your household to the average Australian home.

The online rating tool is free and easy to use, enabling householders to quickly understand how much energy and water they are consuming. All you need to do is input data from 12 months of water and energy bills and answer a few questions about your home.

The Rating tool calculates the household's energy and water ratings out of 5, with 1 star meaning there are significant opportunities to save, and 5 stars meaning your home is excellent in terms of efficiency. The average Australian home is 2.5 stars.

NABERS is a national program managed by the NSW Department of Environment and Climate Change. It ranks water and energy consumption on the actual performance of existing dwellings, compared to design and simulation tools which estimate the predicted performance of new homes.

The NABERS site also includes Explorer tools which provide personalised action plans for you to follow and information on how you can improve your home's performance.
