Supporting educators to bridge the gap between environmental awareness and behavioural change
During July and August, the Department of Environment and Conservation NSW Professional Development for Educators project focused on demand-based learning to support the professional development needs of educators across NSW.
Given the instrumental role educators play in bringing about change for sustainable living, the Professional Development for Educators project recognises the need to increase the effectiveness of educators via demand orientated professional learning, enabling them to bridge the gap between environmental awareness and pro-environmental behaviour.
Demand orientated professional learning breaks away from the 'one size fits all' approach by engaging with a wide range of educators to identify needs and shape learning opportunities around their specific needs.
In working towards energising professional learning, the project has completed a comprehensive needs analysis that contains input from almost 300 people across the state.
From this assessment an innovative project strategy has been developed that identifies a future focus for professional learning and puts forward a suite of professional learning solutions designed to support educators in NSW and meet market demands.

Work has commenced on developing an online Professional Development Hub and Self Assessment Kit - both designed to support the professional learning needs of all those involved in the design, delivery and evaluation of sustainability learning programs which are working to bridge the gap in NSW.
