Living Sustainably

Issue 23 - March 2012

Old fridge being degassed

Have your old second fridge removed for free

The NSW Government's energy saving Fridge Buyback scheme has been extended to include Singleton, Cessnock and Port Stephens households.

The service provides $35 to have an energy-guzzling second fridge collected by a professional removalist, properly degassed and the metals recycled.

Since the program began in 2006, 33,490 second fridges have been collected, saving each household around $260 on power bills a year.

Old fridges can use up to three times the power of today's more efficient models. Getting rid of your second fridge is an easy step to dramatically cut energy bills.

To be eligible for Fridge Buyback, second fridges must be in regular use, at least 10 years old and 250 litres in size. Collection is free (no rebate is paid if collection involves between 7-20 steps).

Fridge Buyback is also available to households in Sydney, the Blue Mountains, the Central Coast, the Illawarra and Shoalhaven, Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Maitland, and now Port Stephens, Cessnock and Singleton.

For more information visit www.fridgebuyback.com.au or call 1800 708 401.
