Lisa Corbyn, Chief Executive of OEH, launched the new 6 star rating
A total of 27 NSW buildings have been awarded the new 6 star environmental rating through the National Australian Built Environment Rating System (NABERS) for energy and water use.
Office of Environment and Heritage Chief Executive, Lisa Corbyn, launched the new rating in August, awarding NSW office buildings and tenancies, and several shopping centres with 5.5 and 6 star NABERS ratings.
The NABERS 6 star rating represents a 50 per cent reduction in carbon emissions or water use from that of the 5 star rating.
Top performers in the commercial property industry called for an extension in the rating system as they were fast moving beyond NABERS five-star excellence to a market-leading 6 star goal.
NABERS gives property owners, occupants and investors a simple way to measure and manage the environmental impact of their building in the areas of energy, water, waste, and the indoor environment.
NABERS is a national initiative managed by the Office of Environment and Heritage NSW (OEH).
