Living Sustainably

Issue 19 - May 2011
Free bike parking at Sydney Festival.

Free bike parking at Sydney Festival.

For the fourth year running, visitors to Sydney Festival major events at the Domain could cycle and park their bikes for free.

With over 300 bikes parked, cyclists helped clear the air for three quintessential Sydney summertime events – Festival First Night, Summer Sounds in the Domain and Symphony in the Domain.

Sponsored by the Department of Environment Climate Change and Water NSW, now the Office of Environment and Heritage, Department of Premier and Cabinet, free bike parking encouraged people to leave the car at home; a simple action that is especially important on hot summer days. The generally warm and dry summer weather increases the chance of smog, fires and dust-storms, which can reduce air quality.

Cycling, walking and taking public transport are simple things we can all do to improve our air quality. For things you can do every day to clear the air visit cleartheair.nsw.gov.au
