FleetWise drives down emissions and costs
Launched in August, at the Clean Air Forum by the Minister for Climate Change and the Environment, Frank Sartor, FleetWise is a NSW Government program to help organisations improve air quality and reduce emissions of greenhouse gases and other pollutants from passenger and light commercial vehicles under 3.5 tonnes.
The program is designed for businesses, not–for–profit organisations and local councils that have 20 or more fleet vehicles. The cost of running fleet vehicles is steadily increasing with rising fuel costs and pressure on organisations to reduce emissions. The transport sector alone accounts for around 13 per cent of NSW's greenhouse gas emissions and passenger vehicles contribute over half of this.
FleetWise helps participants to reduce emissions through a combination of:
- improved vehicle procurement
- adopting alternative vehicle and fuel technologies
- improving fleet management practices, and
- improving driver practices.
The first step is a free introductory seminar to find out more about the program. Following that, a one–off fee of $400 allows organisations to become a FleetWise partner with access to a range of online tools, training, personalised support, and expert advice.
FleetWise is a Clean Air, Healthy Communities initiative, assisted by the NSW Government through its Environmental Trust. It is administered by the Department of Environment, Climate Change and Water NSW.
