A father helps his son to plant a tree at last year's National Tree Day

Planet Ark's National Tree Day has mobilised more than two million volunteers who have planted over 13 million trees in the event's 14-year history. This extraordinary feat would not be possible without the people who step up to coordinate a site in their area, giving their friends and neighbours the opportunity to work together in the local community.

Last year more than 3,500 volunteers registered as site coordinators. This year, Planet Ark is again calling for volunteer coordinators who are willing to share their expertise and teach others how to care for and preserve our environment.

Coordinators are responsible for organising and supervising their own site, with support from Planet Ark's National Tree Day Hotline. A step-by-step guide plus other tools and resources (including information on promoting the tree-planting) are readily available online.

This year's National Tree Day is on Sunday 2 August. Potential site coordinators can download an information kit or call the National Tree Day Hotline on 1300 88 5000 for more information.

Schools Tree Day

Schools Tree Day – an event designed just for children – is on Friday 31 July. Each year, around 200,000 Australian school students take part, making a 'tree-mendous' contribution to the environment and having fun at the same time. Teachers can find out more about getting their school involved by visiting the Teachers Resources page.

Children can visit the Info for kids page.
