The Energy Efficiency for Small Business Program helps companies lower their power bills

The Energy Efficiency for Small Business Program helps companies lower their power bills

The Department of Environment and Climate Change (DECC) is very pleased to be sponsoring a new Energy Efficiency Award at the 2009 Cumberland Courier Newspapers Business Achiever Awards

The new category will recognise businesses for taking steps to reduce their environmental impact. The Awards are held in 18 regions across Sydney and the NSW Central Coast, allowing customers to nominate and vote for businesses in their local area.

"We are delighted to be able to join local communities in celebrating the success of their favourite businesses, particularly those who are becoming more energy efficient," said David Trewin, Business Partnerships Manager at DECC.  "We look forward to receiving the entries to see and reward the range of different measures small businesses are implementing to help reduce their impact on the environment."

"Even small changes, such as making better use of natural light or fixing water leaks, can make a big difference. And making more substantial changes, such as replacing outdated equipment or increasing energy efficiency, can lead to much greater savings for business over the long term."

Sponsoring the Award will promote awareness of the Energy Efficiency for Small Business Program, which helps companies lower their power bills and reduce carbon pollution. The program offers small - and medium-sized businesses an energy assessment, tailored action plan and a rebate of up to $5,000 for improvements.

Cumberland Courier Newspapers has organised the Business Achiever Awards for 16 consecutive years. To enter, businesses must register or be nominated by a local community member. Once voting has closed, the shortlisted finalists are asked to fill in a questionnaire and can elect to enter the Energy Efficiency category. A panel selected by DECC will then determine the winners and highly commended entries in each region.
