Train your staff in the handling of hazardous liquids and prevention of spills.
Make sure you know what to do in the event that a spill occurs, and:
Check waste storage areas are not overfull and wastes cannot be blown or washed away by wind or rain.
Liquid waste can contaminate land and pollute waters and needs to be managed in a way that protects the environment and community. Under the Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997 businesses that generate liquid waste must comply with certain requirements.
You must notify the Department of Environment and Climate Change NSW or your local council of any contamination which could be posing a significant risk of harm to human health or the environment. For more information refer to Guidelines on the significant risk of harm from contaminated land and the duty to report.
