Volunteering

Help wildlife

If you enjoy caring for animals you can also speak to zoos, sanctuaries and rescue services such as the NSW Wildlife Information and Rescue Service (WIRES).

Did you know

nearly 1000 native species, populations and ecological communities are threatened with extinction in NSW ?

 Fact

WIRES has established a network of over 1500 volunteers who rescue, rehabilitate and release sick, injured or orphaned native wildlife. Visit WIRES or phone (02) 8977 3333 or freecall 1800 641 188.

Alternatively, if you have a passion for fish and fishing and would like to help protect our aquatic habitat, why not think about becoming a Fishcare volunteer.

Fishcare volunteers talk to anglers about fishing rules and responsible fishing, and help in a range of activities such as fishing clinics, catch surveys and community fishing events. You'll be expected to give approximately one day per month to help the program and occasionally attend events, such as fishing competitions.

With Conservation Volunteers Australia there are also opportunities to help wildlife – including helping to survey, report and protect the habitat of endangered and protected species.

National Parks & Wildlife Service volunteer program

The National Parks and Wildlife Service also provides a great way for volunteers to not only help look after the natural and cultural environment, but also impart more advanced skills and knowledge by acting as a tour guide.

Find out how you can contribute through their volunteer program.
