Cycling is an activity that can be undertaken by people of all ages and levels of fitness.
There are many bicycle routes around urban and regional areas, and hundreds of kilometres of cycle paths under construction or in the planning stages. The value of cycling as a means of transport and physical activity is widely acknowledged and more steps are underway to improve the bike network, cycling safety and community awareness. Find out more about the Action for Bikes - BikePlan 2010 initiative.
There are many formal and informal recreational cycling groups in NSW. Special events, such as "Sydney to the Gong" are regularly organised and promoted. Local cycling groups or bicycle user groups ("BUGs") also conduct regular riding activities and events. Use the push on rides calendar to see what may be available in your area.
Cycling tours are also becoming popular in some tourist, regional and local areas. Contact your local council, travel agent or tourist information centre for information.
For mountain bike, BMX and bike racing enthusiasts, there are a number of associations and events available, both locally and nationally.
