About the brand

One of the most important and recognisable elements of the Our Environment - It's a Living Thing (OEILT) program is the brand. It is an overarching brand which unifies all environmental educational messages and material produced by program partners, including all state agencies, local councils and non-government organisations such as Keep Australia Beautiful.

The brand is easily recognisable and strengthens material or messages from partners as being part of a much bigger program that is relevant, valued and respected.

To present a strong and unified brand image, the Our Environment - It's a Living Thing brand must be applied consistently.

Permission to use the brand

Access to the Our Environment - It's a Living Thing brand is granted on the basis that the user:

1. is from a NSW State Government agency, a local Government partner or an Non Government Organisation (NGO)
2. is applying the brand to education and communication material in a program or service specifically for the purpose of encouraging sustainable environmental behaviours
3. establishes a link to the It's a Living Thing website livingthing.net.au from the program or service where the brand is used for a program or service that provides web-based information
4. agrees to the conditions outlined in these specifications and protocols.

Limits to the use of the brand

Circumstances where it is considered inappropriate to use the brand:

1. on commercial products or services
2. in initiatives associated with an organisation,
   e.g. organisational letterhead or annual reports, rather than a program or service specifically for the purpose of encouraging sustainable environmental behaviours

Important

The only time it is appropriate to use the brand without the 'NSW Government Program' tag is:

1. print: with another NSW Government agency or local council logo
2. web: on a NSW Government agency website

Any inappropriate use of the brand is considered a breach of copyright.

Format

The brand images are not to be replicated either by hand or computer rendering.

EPS, TIF, GIF and JPEG versions of the brand are available (suitable for both Macintosh and PC systems). For print applications use TIF or EPS format. For online applications, GIF or JPEG are recommended.

TIF files are provided in three sizes. Choose the exact size or a size slightly larger than you need. TIF files cannot be enlarged without loss of quality, use the EPS version instead. Remember to maintain the aspect ratio or image proportions when resizing.

JPEG files should only be used for screen or online applications. The brand should not be smaller than 35mm.

EPS files are fully scaleable, however the minimum size allowed is 35mm.

Specific guidelines are also provided for particular versions of the brand. Please adhere to these guidelines.

Hint – using images in Microsoft Office

Method may vary between versions of MS-Office. Use online help for further assistance.

1. From the insert menu select picture, then from file
2. Select the file format or file type you wish to insert (TIF or EPS) from the, from files of type popup menu at base of dialog box
   Note: for Powerpoint use GIF or JPEG, for printing applications use TIF or EPS
3. Browse your hard-disk until you locate the file to insert and click on it

1. Select the image on the slide
2. Using the Picture Toolbar, choose set transparent color
3. Click on the colour to make invisible
