Project:
The Total Environment Centre (TEC) has two projects funded within the Our environment - it's a living thing partnership:
The hazardous chemicals in the home project will deliver a comprehensive environmental education program around chemical usage in the home, garden and during renovations.
Continuing low levels of community awareness of the environmental and health risks associated with many commonly used household cleaners, pesticides and homecare products demonstrate the need for a dedicated education campaign.
The program will deliver face-to-face community education workshops and build and extend on current community education activities targeting hazardous household chemicals.
The Safer Solutions website enables anyone to participate in the program and will be used to support and educate the community. Visit the Safer Solutions website.
This program aims to work with staff of large Australian companies to increase identification of sustainability issues, develop a decision-making system that promotes sustainability thinking throughout the organization, and encourage innovation and continuous improvement.
TEC's Green Capital program which engages with leading Australian companies has found a gap between supportive sustainability policy at an executive level and a lack of follow through leading to continued unsustainable behaviour at the staff level. There is a real need for broad infiltration of sustainability through new information, training and a resulting culture change.

Total Environment Centre
Total Environment Centre is a non-government, non-profit campaign, advocacy and resource centre for environmental protection. Established in 1972, TEC has worked on a vast range of environmental issues – natural and urban, coastal and inland, country and city.
TEC lobbies for the adoption of policies and laws to protect the environment; and informs the community, business and decision makers about environmental problems and solutions.
As an extension of our role we are involved in two environmental education programs in partnership with the Department of Environment and Climate Change NSW and funded through the NSW Government's Environmental Trust.
These projects have been funded as part of a $3.5million grant from the NSW Government's Environmental Trust. This initiative brings together a range of organisations to conduct a collaborative education program promoting sustainable living in NSW.
