Living Sustainably

Issue 7 - Feb 2008

Sydneysiders got on their bike and pedalled to Sydney Festival Jazz in the Domain and Symphony in the Domain in January 2008.

Bike Racks

The Department of Environment and Climate Change NSW (DECC), in conjunction with Sydney Festival and Bicycle NSW supported cyclists doing their bit for the environment and their health by providing bike racks at both Sydney Festival Domain Events.

NSW Minister Assisting the Minister for Climate Change, Environment and Water, the Hon. Verity Firth said that these two Sydney Festival highlights attract tens of thousands of people and can generate traffic chaos around the city before and after each event.

"As a community, I think we are all starting to understand that what we do as individuals has a big impact on the environment.

"With more than 50 per cent of the car trips taken in Australia each year estimated to be less than five kilometres it is easy to see why cycling is one of the simplest and cheapest ways for an individual to make a significant impact. Not to mention the added benefits to our health and our wallets," said Ms Firth.
